Artwork requirements
A file built to these rules clears the check faster and prints without surprises.
We always check a supplied file before printing and report what we find. But the closer the artwork is to these requirements, the fewer revisions and approvals are needed.
If anything here is unclear, just send the file as it is and note it in the comment. We will work it out together.
File format
- PDF is the preferred format for printing
- Vector source files suit logos, stickers and contour cutting
- Raster files are accepted when resolution is sufficient for the size
- Multipage products as single pages in the correct order
- One file per product, without extra imposition marks
Bleed and safe margins
- Bleed is needed when a background or image reaches the trim
- Text and logos sit away from the cut line
- Booklets need a larger clearance near fold lines
- Multipage products need a larger spine margin
- Banners need an allowance for hemming and eyelets
Images and resolution
- Resolution is judged at the real finished size, not on screen
- Small print needs higher resolution, large format tolerates less
- Screenshots and social-media images are usually unusable
- Enlarging a small image does not add detail to it
- Logos are best supplied as vectors
Colour
- Printing is produced in CMYK
- RGB files are converted and colour may shift
- Vivid screen colours cannot always be reproduced in print
- Black text is better as single-colour rather than rich black
- For critical colours, ask for a proof copy
Fonts and elements
- Fonts converted to outlines or supplied as files
- Thin lines and small reversed-out type read poorly
- Contour cutting is defined by a separate vector path
- Trim lines, marks and helper elements must stay out of the artwork
- Proofread and test QR-code links before sending
